Frequently Asked Questions.
-
No. New York State law allows physical therapists with at least three years of experience to treat patients without a referral for up to 10 visits or for 30 days, whichever comes first.
-
When in doubt, call us! Though we don’t provide consultations over the phone, our clinical team is happy to talk through your symptoms to recommend the best next steps for your treatment.
-
Perilli Physical Therapy accepts most major insurance plans. Please see below to see a list of some of the most common insurances we accept.
-
Our clinic is equipped to treat patients who are able to transition from sitting to standing independently or with minimal assistance (one-person assist). For patients requiring a two-person assist for transfers, we recommend a higher level of rehab to ensure they are getting the appropriate level of support.
While we specialize in physical therapy and outpatient rehab for adults, we do offer pediatric (children’s) treatment in select cases. If you have a child who is a candidate for physical therapy, please call us to determine if we are a good fit for your child’s care.
-
We advise patients to wear comfortable clothing and supportive footwear (like sneakers) that allow them to move freely.
If special attire is needed (like work footwear or a swimsuit for aquatic therapy), then a member of our team will notify you in advance.
If this is your first visit, please remember your identification, insurance card (if applicable), and referral from a medical provider (if applicable).
-
It’s important to remember that each patient is different. Your treatment plan will be tailored to the severity of your condition and how much pain you’re in. You can expect your physical therapist to provide an estimate of your treatment timeline during your initial evaluation and your follow-up visits.
Generally speaking, many of our patients attend physical therapy two times per week, for up to 6-8 weeks.
-
We utilize a collaborative, team-based approach to ensure you receive the highest level of care. This means each member of our clinical team is fully briefed on your care and committed to your results. It also helps us offer greater scheduling flexibility to our patients who have busy schedules.
Please note: Patients who are receiving specialized treatment such as pelvic floor therapy or vestibular therapy will have a dedicated specialist who oversees their care.
-
Are you or is a loved one scheduling a joint replacement, spine surgery, or another procedure? We advise patients to call us as soon as your surgery date is set so we can sync your physical therapy program with your recovery timeline.
-
Yes, some patients will receive physical therapy in combination with another service like occupational therapy, chiropractic care, or massage therapy.
If you are receiving treatment due to a no-fault accident or workers’ compensation case, there tend to be restrictions on receiving multiple services on the same day. Please contact your insurance company to discuss limits on your coverage.
-
Perilli Physical Therapy exclusively sees patients at our office location. While we do provide home exercise programs to supplement your rehab, we do not see patients outside of the office.

New York State physical therapy law.
New York State law allows physical therapists with at least three years of experience to treat patients without a referral from a physician for up to 10 visits or for 30 days, whichever comes first. The faster patients begin physical therapy after an injury or onset of pain, the faster they will heal.
Doctors of physical therapy are trained to determine if a patient requires further testing during the first visit and will refer you out to other medical providers if needed.
